Yeast infection and autism

Firstly it is important to note that the gut flora that is present in an individual diminishes with long term intake of antibiotics. When a child gets some ear infection or chicken pox, then the prescription medication is mainly responsible for diminishing the gut flora in the child. And when this gut flora level falls, the child may be exposed to the risk from Candida. Not only antibiotics, certain environmental factors like water and air pollution may also affect the child and may increase the risk from Candida. Studies have revealed that there is difference in gut flora of normal children and children having autism. And taking this study into consideration and assuming that an autism patient is getting yeast infection, it will be important to study as to what effect the yeast infection and the treatment will have on him. First, let us discuss the effect of severe yeast infection on the autistic patient. Since, Candida multiplies and spreads, the function of the digestive track changes and there is release of toxins which can affect the brain functioning. Thus, the effect of this will be too severe and the autism patient will have the symptoms of autism worsened. Now, considering the anti-fungal treatment, this treatment brings the gut flora level to normal in the patient’s body. And thus, the autism patient shows improvement in the condition. This observation is derived from one of the researches of the Center for the Study of Autism in Oregon.
