The primary method of detecting this infection involves the diagnosis of the skin. In most of the cases, the doctors confirm the occurrence of Tinea Capitis by observing the condition of the scalp. In case, the person suffers from some of the most evident symptoms like swelling, loss of hair, lesions, scaling and more, he is detected with this fungal infection. However, in order to confirm this condition, the patient may be subjected to further medical tests. One of the most common tests used for confirming Tinea Capitis is a skin lesion biopsy. In this test, a portion of the affected skin is removed for a thorough diagnostic examination. The same test may be followed by a culture test in order to affirm the infestation of dermatophytes.  Wood’s lamp test is another common test used for certifying the attack of this infection. This particular test is usually performed in a gloomy room. The person is exposed to a beam of ultraviolet light. This test proves beneficial at detecting several conditions caused by fungal as well as bacterial infections. Further, KOH test, better known as potassium hydroxide test, is also carried on in order to affirm the prevalence of Tinea Capitis.
