What Is Miconazole

Miconazole is a drug that is used to treat fungal infections in the vagina or on the skin. It also treats Candida albicans, tinea versicolor, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and tinea corporis.

When the vagina is infected the cream is what is used to treat it. It is not to be done by the mouth. An applicator is used and one dose is inserted in the vagina. The doctor goes over how to use the cream. If the patient has any questions they should ask the doctor before using it to make sure that they are doing it right. It should only be taken at night right before bedtime.

There are different strengths with Miconazole and the directions might vary of when and how to use it so the patient should still talk with the doctor about any concerns.

Side effects with Miconazole include but not limited to:

- Burning
- Irriation
- Rash

If these side effects happen the doctor should be notified right away because either the dosage should be changed or the patient might need another type of medication. If in time the condition does not get better the doctor should be called to see about changing the dosage of the medication.
