Define tinea pedis

Tinea Pedis, also known as Athlete’s foot, is a fungal disease of the feet. It is most commonly caused due to the invasion of the fungus called Trichophyton. Uncared feet kept moist for a prolonged period of time is believed to be the main trigger for the attack of this fungus. However, Tinea Pedis can also occur in other body areas like scalp, arms, legs, trunk, hands, groin, nail, feet and more. According to several observations by experts, this kind of fungus is mostly found in damp areas with crowded settings like swimming pools, nail salons, locker rooms. Further, the development and growth of this mold like fungi is also found in socks and other clothing kept moist due to sweat for a long time. The main trigger for the spread and further growth of this fungus is believed to be a direct contact with the infected area of the person. In addition, contact with the objects used by the person suffering from this infection can also lead to an abrupt transmission of these fungi. The most common indicator of this condition is cracking, scaling and peeling of skin on the toes. These symptoms may occur with the formation of redness and itchiness.
